The Great Fire of London

The great Fire of London 1666

A contemporary and official record of the Fire appeared in two issues of the London Gazette; the first is dated Sunday, 2nd September 1666, the day of the outbreak, and the second six days later, the regular issue of the paper having been interrupted by the conflagration. These important records provide interesting accounts, and are therefore reproduced in full. The language of those days is still easy to understand even if the rules for spelling and punctuation are less so.
